The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

While I did enjoy the film, I am not completely sold on its ticket price. The visuals were great, and the story was certainly inspiring. But I felt that this movie was barely worth it. I had been dying to see this film for months. The preview looked amazing and captivated me. As I mentioned earlier, it was inspiring. However, Kristen Wiig's performance is too awkward. While Stiller did a good job of showing a dynamic Walter Mitty, his character is too dependent on fantastic circumstances.

Another nitpick is that it was quite predictable. Both my girlfriend and I called out numerous sequences well before they happened. The one redeeming quality I found though was the amazing use of words throughout the film. I love little touches like that: it makes you view the whole movie and not scenes, I believe. Sean Penn and Adam Scott (Derek from Step Brothers) are nice supporting characters and would have loved to see more of them. Pay attention to the quips, some are quite humorous!

Final ruling: if someone is begging you to see it, I guess it's okay. Otherwise, wait for this one.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Tad bit dark at points, in both story and filming. Overall, it was not too bad. I am not a huge fan of the series, but I definitely wouldn't mind knowing how it all ends. I found some of the characters not overly convincing. I think that's due to the double roles that they play. Don't want to spoil it for you, but not everyone is who they seem. I think the best part about this movie is how it leaves you thinking about it, trying to put all the pieces together. Some viewers may not enjoy that, but if you find a little intellectual play enjoyable, you'll love what Catching Fire will do for you.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

5 Stars

Loved it. Little bit too much dialogue, but that's what happens when you stretch one book into 3 movies. Action sequences were great: not too jumpy. Stuck to the book very well, too.

This movie had it all: great storyline, good cinematography, comic relief, and really kept you wanting to know what happens in the next movie!

Welcome to Bootleg Review!

I am writing this blog in response to the complete lack of confidence people have in going to the movies nowadays. More often than not, I do not go to the movies because someone did not like the movie and happened to mention that in passing. After awhile, I find myself regretting not seeing the movie in theaters. Other times, I wish someone would spare me the pain of paying for and watching a terrible movie. I hope to review as many current movies as possible and help you make an informed decision with a simple review.

4 Stars: If your girlfriend begs you to see it, take her to watch it. You might even enjoy it.
3 Stars: Get the bootleg. Better yet, wait for someone you know to buy the bootleg.**
2 Stars: If you have nothing to do AND it's already on TV, go ahead.
1 Star: If it were on TV, I still would not watch it
